Ekofoda : agro-ecological training in Togo

Ekofoda : agro-ecological training in Togo

In Togo, as in much of West Africa, farmers are the first victims of climate change. Faced with the drudgery of the work and the lack of resources, some young farmers prefer to try their luck in the capital. Yet they are the guarantors of food security for all, and in the city they can’t find the means to earn a living.

A resource center in the heart of Togo

In 2023, Entrepreneurs du Monde set up an agricultural resource center in Tchébébé, 271 km from Lomé, to help vulnerable producers adapt to climate change. At this center, the team trains them in climate-smart techniques and supports them throughout the agricultural value chains.

Skilled and ambitious farmer

I always helped my father in the fields, and I loved it. So, when I had my BAC, I wanted to enroll in Agronomy, but for lack of economic and human support, I had to fall back on Geography. It was a mistake, and after college I went back home to work in market gardening and animal husbandry (goats and chickens).

I married late but today I have 2 daughters. They are my joy and my motivation. I’m calm and hard-working. My products are of high quality and I’m proud of the satisfaction expressed by my customers. I’ve followed EKOFODA’s training courses with great interest: agroecology, raising improved traditional hens.

I’m putting everything I’ve learned into practice, and I’m already seeing the results! I’m also asked to share the skills I’ve acquired, and I’m happy to do so. I’d now like to expand my farm and get into fish farming, beekeeping and agroforestry.

Sekou TEMTA

An original concept, incubated by Entrepreneurs du Monde

The model offered to male and female farmers combines training in the resource center with individualized support on their farms. The courses focus on agro-ecology and last between 2 and 4 months, depending on the topic.
Theoretical training uses tools adapted to illiterate people, while practical training takes place directly in Ekofoda’s fields, which serve as a breeding and cultivation experimentation ground.

Ekofoda is incubated by Entrepreneurs du Monde until it becomes a fully autonomous entity under local law. The team therefore receives support on all the fundamental aspects of its structuring: legal, governance, strategy, management and reporting tools, social performance management, fundraising, etc. Ekofoda is registered with the Association Professionnelle des Centres de Formation Agricole et Rurale (APCFAR).
